The need for a more strategic way of earning revenue paved the way for opening up of Marketing Divisions by Prasar Bharati in major cities, to step up in-house marketing. The Marketing Division at Mumbai was set up in the year 2000. The Mumbai Division is responsible for the marketing of airtime on the National Network of Doordarshan and AIR & Doordarshan centres in Maharashtra & Gujarat.
Subsequently 8 other regional units (Marketing Divisions) were also set up to for the airtime sale in regional kendras. Their jurisdiction is as follows:

Bangalore: AIR and DD stations in Karnataka
Chennai: AIR and DD stations in Tamil Nadu.

Kolkatta: AIR and DD stations in West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar & Jharkhand.
Thiruvananthapuram & Kochi: AIR and DD stations in Kerala.
Guwahati: AIR and DD stations in Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Manipur & Mizoram.
Jalandhar: AIR and DD stations in Punjab, J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana & UT of Chandigarh.
